Minton harp/vocal, Ed Babar double bass, David Ingamells drums. Unusual gig and surprisingly good. The setlist was varied, including On the Sunny Side of the Street, You Go to My Head (Billie Holiday), Goodbye Pork Pie Hat (Mingus) stuff by Stevie Wonder and Dave Holland, the Beatles’ Blackbird and several self-composed. The harp playing was not just swirls of pretty sound, as is so often the case, but properly played, pushing the melody and providing harmony, not just ornament. I had the impression that everything was closely arranged and through-composed – so little improvisation.
