Naqqals are a theatre troupe from either Rajasthan or Punjab, the former of these thought to be the home of the Romani before they embarked on their centuries-long travels to the west. They are all female impersonators, apparently a tradition. The Moroccan Erraji, who is blind, played oud and percussion. Cheb Kader, with band, sang rai from Algeria. The first of three events seen at this festival of Gipsy (Romani) music, not much of this one was appealing, though I do like rai.
