The band were Rasul Siddik trumpet, another unknown trumpet, Sue Morrow trombone, James Spaulding alto sax/flute, David Murray tenor sax/bass clarinet, Lafayette Gilchrist piano, Jaribu Shahid double bass, unknown drums. The performance was entitled David Murray Octet Plays Trane and, indeed, they played these compositions of the great saxophonist: Lazy Bird, The Crossing, Mr PC, Acknowledgement (Pt 1 of A Love Supreme), Giant Steps and India. Very good concert, lively for an eight-piece, with some tremendous playing, especially from Lafayette Gilchrist who was all over his piano. John Fordham’s review was in The Guardian, 18 November 2000.
