Gotta say, You can't beat a bit of corporate hospitality! My god pal Graham came up with the goods after I made a passing comment and came with to experience what a proper concert is like as opposed to the likes of Kasabian which is his normal thing. Support came from Voodoo Six but we skipped that as I thought that my pal should be eased in gently and I was grateful just to see Maiden again! So we took our places in the private box owned by Sir Robert Mcalpine and used by his employees, which was to stage right and offered a great view of the band plus all the of the effects, models and Pyro you'd normally associate with Maiden. As per normal, Maiden literally exploded onto the stage as they opened their set with 'Moonchild' from the epic 'Seventh Son Of A Seventh Son' album which they then followed up with 'Can I Play with Madness' from the same album. It seemed like the main theme was indeed the SSOASS album but obviously most of the songs you'd expect to be played were, although I was surprised at the omission of 'Hallowed Be Thy Name', which I've always regarded as a bit of a standard! This was Maiden on top form Dickinson absolutely on fire backed by the fury of founder, Steve Harris, as usual wielding his bass like an automatic weapon whilst the cultured strumming of Dave Murray was augmented by the sheer fury and energy of Adrian Smith and Janick Gers! All that and everybody's favourite nutter, Nicko McBrain on drums! They're heavier than a bag of spanners! And heavy it was! My poor mate didn't know what hit him and complained of his ears ringing for five days after. Me? My ears were ringing too but I also couldn't stop smiling for 5 days!
