Out to Lunch : Phil Merriman Trio, Cadogan Hall, Sloane Square, London (GB) - Jul 27, 2023

Merriman was the pianist and the others were John Williamson bass and Simon Roth drums. The numbers were self-composed. I’m not a piano trio lover and I don’t much like the composed nature of a lot of UK jazz at the moment but this was unexpectedly interesting, of high quality: interesting themes, good cohesion, surprise melodic twists and tune endings, impressive musicianship, especially from the drummer.
