An enjoyable event. Diana Ross was much more engaged the last time I saw her at the NEC .She appeared to enjoy playing to a Festival . Much more animated than her jubilee performance .Stand out tracks I,m Still waiting and the Theme from Mahogany. Trevor Nelson played a good selection of essential soul tracks ,primarily form the 70's . Gabrielle played many familiar songs , but somehow disappointing . Corrine bailey Rae played a largely pleasant set . Judi Jackson had a strong stage presence , played a remarkably wide range of music ranging from sublime quiet soul , scat to heavy rock . Danny Toeman obviously heavily influenced by James Brown, put on a highly entertaining set with solid backing form his band .Proclaimed himself as the King of North London Soul (albeit he was in Cambridge ) The Festival was well organised . The people administering the car park/admissions all very helpful . Also sufficient toilets and facilities. The only winge was that a tin of beer was £5.50 and they wanted to charge you an additional £2.00 for a plastic cup to drink it from !
