This was an odd rock ‘n’ roll event. The supporting bands were fairly nondescript though James Hunter apparently has since had some success as an r&b/soul singer/guitarist. The Cannibals probably were Mike Spenser vocal/harmonica plus guitar, bass and drums. Link Wray was the big name – rock ‘n’ roll/rockabilly guitarist from the 1950s. He played his classic number Rumble and a number of other pieces to show off his guitar style. Rather dull. But the event was anthropologically interesting: most of the audience were dressed in teddy boy clothing (drapes, velvet collars, drainpipes) and clearly constituted an ongoing subculture sustaining this type of 1950s music. Interestingly, there were a lot of youngish people dressed the same way. Food for thought.
