NOTE: This was the first of four "magical" shows that I attended in 2000 which made me fall completely in love with live music!
This concert was phenomenal! There were no opening acts. Just 2.5 hours of music from one of the greatest alternative bands of the '90s. Billy Corgan, James Iha, and Jimmy Chamberlain absolutely killed it! D'arcy Wretzky had already been replaced with Melissa Auf Der Mar (Melissa still delivered a wonderful performance that night). Little did I know at the time, but the Pumpkins would be broken up by the end of that year. I would see Billy and James playing in different bands a few years later, and both of them made beautiful and entrancing music with those other groups. But on this night, they were playing together ... and they played with a synergy that was absolutley transcendent. Jimmy and Melissa also produced a bottom end that was so heavy my consciousness was shaken, like a soul seizure. I was raptured! I don't know how else to describe it. I know this might sound ridiculous ... you could even argue that it was chemically induced ... but I am not kidding. I was enthralled! I have so many great memories from this night. The band seemed very playful, like they were in overall good spirits. Excellent show! Bravo!
