Alice Smith was the most powerful voice I had ever experienced live. Her collection of jazz and R&B vocals over top of solid drums, bass, and guitar was exactly what I was hoping for.
The Tin Angel was a very cool venue... but that was about it. The venue was very long, meaning the room was a lot longer than it was wide... I got there right at 630 and the room was already pretty much full, live and learn I guess.
Furthermore, just a little point I want to make about encores. If you come back out for an encore and only play one song (bummer) make it really energetic and powerful. Slow songs are great in the setlist and have their place, it is not the last song.
